Day 10 Prompt – Start your story with: “She touched the little box in her pocket and smiled…”
She touched the little box in her pocket and smiled, knowing she was going to make it in time. Sprinting out the door of the train the moment it slid open, she took the stairs two at a time, leaving a wake of gawkers in her dust. Out on the noisy street she spotted a taxi and hailed it. She yanked the handle and jumped in before the car stopped rolling.
“The hospital please,” she panted.
She eased the box reverently from her pocket and cradled it in her palm. She could almost feel it pulse with life through the walls of its container. Unconventional as it was to transport this way, she had high hopes that the tiny human heart she carried would save the otherwise ill-fated life of a little boy.
