poem – a poem

it’s the poem of all poems
the penultimate penned piece
where the damsel withers
within her lonely turret
while the prince races hither
to smite the beast
and finally to claim his bride
as he breaks her fall
only his legs are crushed
because the silly woman squeezed
her gigantic posterior through the window
thinking her romeo had burn’t crispy
from the dragon’s horrid and hot halitosis…

it’s the poem of all poems
and this is not it.

#SoCS – greener grass

you’re here
he’s there
you’re real
so is he
but life with you
is not like life with him would be
life with you is mundane
he is exciting
our real life is ordinary
my life with him would be a celebration
day in, day out
night life, sleeping all day
work, boring
partying all the time
our life is lived together in the real world
his life exists in the spotlight, he is never bored
the dirt on which we sleep is hard
the grass over there is soft and green
we fight
he is always happy
we’re poor
he is rich
you’re here
he’s there
it’s surreal

mostly

mostly i love the way you look
when you walk in the door
after a long day at work

mostly i love the way you laugh
mostly in bed, after we make love

mostly i love your passion
you love what you love and
you care not what anyone else thinks

mostly i love the way you smell
when i steal your pillow after you get in the shower

mostly i love the way we fight
and then we make up
and then we make up some more

mostly i love you
yes, mostly i love you

presence

you fill a room
you command space

your smile brightens
like candle light;

your arms, when they surround me
cherish my soul

your energy fills my nerves
and i’m powerful. whole.

up and down
up and down
please place me upon your pedestal forever
should your grace fill me
with the magic of you

math of us

if i take half of you
and half of me
will we be one
like frankenstein’s monster
but diminished?

if i draw you
and then quarter you
and then take four quarters
and put you back together
can you fit in
my whole?

if you divide your attention
but then we multiply
will our children
be a fraction
of us?

if you spend half your time
with me
and the other half
baking
can we
reinvent pi?

sleep

you are a ball of light
drifting in and out
resting above my drunken eyes
tumbling past my brain to rest
like a collar around my neck
and then
as you heat my body
enwrapped in your warm afterglow
i know
you are mine
for the night

the dark

a dark flower blooms
like black ink upon the petal of a rose
deep within my chest
where my heart

should lie to you but i can’t;
your love for me so sweet,
such like i wish upon myself
before i lie in

my grave will surely be marked
by all who misunderstood
my happiness, my confidence,
that was all bravado

and darkness

accounting for love

spend your love on me
you say
but what does that really mean?

if i have eleven dollars and
fifty cents
that won’t buy much, will it?

if i use my credit card, say visa, or
american express
will it add interest to the offer?

can i mortgage my house
for you
and if so will that set my love in stone?

or maybe i should just take out
a loan
you know i’d get my knees broken for you, right?

spend you love on me
you say
but what i’d rather do is present it freely, to you each day.

sputter

it was bound to happen
when we met
and the light in your eyes
lit like a brand new spot
in the showcase of a diamond store
and for years it shone
and we were so
ha ha ha
happy
until the day i cheated
and you found out
and then i watched with regret
as that light in your eyes
dimmed and then
pt pt pt
sputtered out

draw

life is a game of scrabble
and i’m missing some vowels

if I had them, perhaps i
would know what to do

i have an l and a v
an n and a g

if i had an e and an a
i’d be leavng you

if i had an o and an i
i’d be loving you

shuffle the tiles my dear
and dip into the bag

our fate
is in your hand
